The Puppeteer's Ballet

I wanted this piece to look and feel like a Flash Mob.  I chose the court yard in front of The Joe because it's a very public place that can be viewed by passersby and students inside the actual building.  I was so excited that we caught a few people’s attention and ended up with an audience!  It would be interesting to see what would happen if we had performed it at a more busy time.

The artsy fartsy explanation of the title is that all my classmates were puppets in my ballet.  The only moment they got to break away from my confining instructions were the moments they got to switch places with each other in the circle and Pinocchio music played.

I will probably edit this project again so that the script is even more specific.  I think the project could have benefited from more moments that said “1, 2, 3, GO” and “1, 2, 3, STOP”.  I hope to use this project as a team building exercise in future career pursuits.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR PARTICIPATING! :)

One of the components that really stood out was the sense of repetition that you had developed. Regardless that you had divided the group into two, there was still a cohesive feel to the overall work when the actions performed by one group were later executed by the latter. This element fed into the overall objective of the work being reminiscent of a ballet and I hope to view it as a spectator one day! :D

Yo. I thought this audio "tour" was the most fun to actually participate in! I didn't feel silly or self-conscious while dancing around, clapping, and hopping like a fool because you made it fun and simple. The instructions worked out really well and I didn't think there were any major timing discrepancies!

Thanksssss!

Fun, silly, and a perfect idea for the group setting. It was a lot of fun seeing other act out the motions, and see who had messed up on the timing.

I had a blast doing this! Great work, fun but nothing toooooo crazy. The timing seemed to work well, so props for that.

This is one of the tours that makes for plenty of fun for both the participants and observers. An interesting twist on a "tour" where the participants are the artwork themselves.

This one was so much fun! I'm glad we did this project further into the semester so we all know each other a little better which made it much more fun. We were like a group of awesome synchronized swimmers but not swimming so I guess that's just dancing... anyways.. great idea and great job seeing it through!

I thought yours was the most fun out of all of them! I thought I would feel embarrassed or like an idiot, but honestly not at all! It was so funny and well done, even if one person was off it worked so well! Really great job!

I think your audio was the most unique out of all of ours. I really had a lot of fun. At first I was kinda iffy about doing it where everyone usually passes by, but as time went by I just forgot about the people watching and just enjoyed myself. My friend that I brought kind of hated me at first for making her do it with us but in the end she really enjoyed it. I love how your audio was more about audience participation which made us really connect with your piece. Your instructions were clear and it was really interesting how well it turned out! Bravo!

This piece was another of my favorite. I was skeptical at first, mostly because I didn't want to move at the time, but once we began it became so fun so quickly. I didn't feel self-conscious, not that I really was to begin with, but doing it with a group really gave it a feeling of purpose and blasted any small feeling of self-consciousness away. You did great with the timing of everything and it really did look synced (for the most part lol). Very very fun.

I thought your piece was definitely one of the best and easily one of my favorites. Even though we stayed in one place, I loved how you still involved a lot of movement. Everything was well timed and well planned out, it looked like we were practicing some sort of choreography to those who weren't listening or aware of it. Normally I wouldn't do something like that in public, but after a few seconds I became so immersed with the piece that I didn't care anymore. You should definitely post up some instructions on how you got everyone to get in synch with your piece, because this could make a great party game!

I think this piece was the funnest one. I like the dance that you instruct us to follow. It did not make us feel embarrassed. I like our group's performance.

I loved this audio! It was so much fun and silly. Really cool how everything matched up pretty much perfect with both groups. Great thought to do this project like that in a public place.

What I love about your piece is you can actually do this anywhere. It would have been interesting to do this at the park, the quad, or someplace with heavier traffic to see the reactions of other people. I wish I didn't wear a skirt that day so I could fully participate, but I had fun either way!

Heh, I hope you had fun with us as your puppets. I don't think there was one of us that didn't crack a smile or bust out laughing during this. Just a feel good excellent time.

I was really worried about doing a public "dance" but you made it fun and entertaining, even if I was like 30 seconds behind everyone. Well done.
